The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is saddened to announce the untimely passing of staff member Mr Peter “Mashata” Leshie Mabuse on Sunday, 21 April 2024, in what appears to be an incident of violent crime.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) are investigating.

Mabuse, has been a loyal employee of TUT where he served as a Residence Advisor for both Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa Campuses. His varied community engagement activities - e.g. as MC and as Stadium Announcer at Mamelodi Sundowns home matches - had a positive impact on society beyond the gates of the University.

The University is providing the Mabuse family, friends, colleagues and students with as much support as we can at this difficult time.

The family should be afforded the space and the time to process their great loss, and to honour the memory of the deceased with dignity.

The University calls upon the public, including the media, to exercise restraint and sensitivity towards the family at this time of grief.

Our deepest condolences go to the Mabuse family, friends, colleagues and TUT students.

Mr Peter “Mashata” Leshie Mabuse.
