The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is on the list of the top 13 universities in South Africa, according to the 2024 rankings by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). TUT is the only University of Technology in the list of top 13 SA universities.

The CWUR ranks universities on four objective criteria.

The first criterion, which constitutes 25% of the overall ranking, is the quality of teaching and learning or education.

The second critical criterion which also constitutes 25% of the overall ranking, speaks to one of some of the greatest challenges facing South African graduates today, namely, employability.

The third criterion, constituting 10% of the overall ranking speaks the quality, standing and qualifications of staff members or faculty (10%).

The last and pivotal criterion, which constitutes 40% of the overall criterion speaks to the proficiency of the universities in knowledge creation and research

After analysing 62 million outcome-based data on the performance of 21000 universities across the globe, against the above mentioned criteria, the CWUR listed only 2000 universities. TUT is therefore one of the top 10% of universities in the world.

“20 years since the establishment of TUT, the CWUR rankings confirm that if you wish to move from good to great, you must move to TUT. The rankings affirm the quality of our teaching, the high calibre of our staff, the original nature of our research and above all, these rankings confirm that TUT graduates are not only employable, they invent jobs and they are shaping the future of work”, said an elated Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, Vice Chancellor and Principal.

TUT is not only inside the list of the best 13 universities in South Africa, it is also on top of the tree of Universities of Technology in South Africa.
