Twenty-four-year-old Zeney Geldenhuys is already making great strides in the athletics world. Zeney Geldenhuys is doing her second-year in Sports Management at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

“In and of itself, qualifying for the Olympics is a remarkable achievement, but now, Zeney Geldenhuys stands a chance to write her name into the annals of Olympic history. My chest swells with pride”, said TUT Vice Chancellor and Principal, Prof Tinyiko Maluleke.

Geldenhuys is coached by world renowned Maritza Coetzee. She excels in various events such as the 400m hurdles, 400m, 4x400m relays, and mixed relays. Her record-breaking 54.72 seconds in the 400m hurdles at the South African Senior Track & Field Championships on April 18th secured her Olympic spot. 

Not one to rest on her laurels, Geldenhuys has been training and competing in Europe to further perfect her skills. On June 3rd, she ran the 400m hurdles at the prestigious Diamond League in Stockholm, Sweden, finishing with an impressive time of 52.12 seconds and earning a silver medal.

“I am now preparing for the Olympics, and my goal is to run a sub-54-second race,” Geldenhuys shared enthusiastically.


“It is now my biggest quest to achieve this year.”

With her sights set on Olympic gold, Geldenhuys is a name to watch.
