The Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, in partnership with the City of Tshwane, is gearing up to host the highly anticipated Tshwane Varsity Hackathon. The 2024hackathon, the sixth annual edition of this event, is scheduled to take place from 4-6 October, at the Pretoria Campus. The event promises to bring together innovative and creative minds in the tech community and aims to foster collaboration, creativity and problem-solving among students and young professionals.

The event is open to TUT students and those from other universities in Tshwane, as well as tech enthusiasts and young professionals from across the region. Over the course of 48 hours, participants will work in teams to brainstorm, design and develop their innovative solutions. They will have access to mentorship by experienced professionals, including software developers, engineers and entrepreneurs, who will provide guidance and support throughout the event.

The hackathon will kick off with an opening ceremony featuring keynote addresses from prominent figures in the tech industry and academia. These speakers will share their insights on the importance of innovation and the role of technology in solving global challenges. Following the opening ceremony, teams will dive into the intense 48-hour development period, working around the clock to bring their ideas to life.

The event will culminate in a series of presentations, where teams will pitch their projects to a panel of judges comprising industry experts, academics and investors. The top three teams will receive prizes and the opportunity to further develop their projects with support from TUT’s Innovation Hub.

In addition to the competitive aspect, participants will have valuable networking opportunities during the hackathon. They will have the chance to connect with like-minded peers, industry professionals and potential investors, fostering relationships that could lead to future collaborations and career opportunities.

Registration for the hackathon is now open and interested participants are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
