TUT FM, the Tshwane University of Technology's Soshanguve based campus radio station, has been a lighthouse for student-driven content and community engagement for three decades. Since its humble beginnings in 1994, TUT FM has evolved from a small academic effort to a renowned broadcast platform, adapting to changing media landscapes and remaining true to its broadcast mission.
"We are proud of reaching this milestone," said Kedibone Mahapa, Station Manager. "Our journey reflects the power of resilience and innovation. We have grown from a small group of students with a passion for radio to a sophisticated media organisation, empowering student voices and serving the community."

A TUT FM founding member, Hector Mathebe, reminisced about the station's early days: "We started with a few dedicated students and a dream to create a platform for student voices. It is amazing to see how far we have come. TUT FM's commitment to providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives has remained steadfast and it has been incredible to witness the station's growth and impact over the years."
TUT FM's early days were marked by limited resources and a reliance on student volunteers. However, the station's commitment to innovation and community engagement has remained strong. Over the years, TUT FM has expanded its reach beyond the campus, embracing digital technology and social media to engage with a broader audience. Despite facing challenges such as financial constraints and shifting media consumer trends, TUT FM has demonstrated remarkable adaptability and resilience. The station has continued to innovate, embracing new technologies and formats to remain relevant in an ever-changing media landscape.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the station can reflect on its rich history and look forward to building on its legacy of excellence. Based on a strong foundation and a commitment to innovation, TUT FM is poised to continue empowering student voices and impacting public conversation.
