With every new global ranking in which it is featured, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is steadily going higher and higher. Nothing illustrates this better than two recent rankings: the U.S News and World Report on Best Global Universities Rankings as well as the Times Higher Education’s Impact Rankings.

According to the U.S News and World Report on Best Global Universities Rankings, released earlier this month, TUT is on the list of top 15 universities in South Africa. At position twelve on this list, TUT is the highest ranked university of technology. Aged 20 this year, TUT is doing remarkably well against universities that are up to six times its age.

Similarly, it is gratifying to note that TUT is beginning to show up on the Times Higher Education’s Impact Rankings, which quantify the influence of universities on society by evaluating their contribution to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The University achieved its highest ranking in SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals), placing it between 401-600 out of 2031 universities globally, highlighting its strength in fostering collaborative networks. In SDG 1 (No Poverty), TUT ranked between 300-401 out of 1095, demonstrating solid contributions to poverty alleviation by producing future-ready graduates.

“Clearly, at twenty years of age, TUT has no fear of heights. Every year it scales new heights as it keeps moving from good to great,” said Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, TUT’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
