Soshanguve-based community radio station, TUT FM 96.2, in collaboration with the Momentum Multiply Titans, came together at the Soshanguve Block DD Cricket Stadium, infusing the spirit of Nelson Mandela's legacy into a day of impactful community service and reflection.

Honouring International Nelson Mandela Day, volunteers from both entities took on the monumental task of revitalizing the iconic Soshanguve Cricket Stadium. Walls were repainted, surroundings cleaned and a renewed sense of pride enveloped the venue that holds deep significance within the local community.

Reflecting on Mandela's profound impact, Rivaldo Moonsamy, Player of the Year for the Momentum Multiply Titans, described him as a global icon of change and unity. "Nelson Mandela's journey from apartheid to democracy remains a beacon of hope and inspiration. Today, we emulate his spirit by giving back and demonstrating kindness beyond this commemorative day," Moonsamy shared.

Kedibone Tshelela, TUT FM Station Manager, emphasised the station's commitment to continuous community engagement. "Beyond the 67 minutes on Mandela Day, we strive to bring about sustained transformation. As a community campus-based radio station, we are proud to lead initiatives that foster positive change in our communities," Tshelela.

The event transcended gender roles, showcasing unity as men and women from the cricket team and radio station worked side by side, embodying the diverse and inclusive spirit Mandela championed throughout his life.

"As we celebrate TUT FM’s 30th Anniversary this July, coinciding with Mandela Month, we acknowledge the important role Mandela played in our journey as a township-based radio station," Tshelela added. "His legacy of freedom and empowerment resonates deeply as we ‘amplify voices and empower lives’".

The commemoration of the iconic Nelson Mandela extended beyond South Africa's borders, highlighting Mandela's global impact on advocacy for unity and peace. TUT FM continues to honour Mandela's principles by providing a platform for open expression and community empowerment.
