TUT will soon launch its first-ever fully online Masters’ degree programme in the Faculty of Management Sciences, giving a new cohort of students access to its quality programmes.

By introducing a fully online Master of Management Sciences in Contact Centre Management, the University is giving students the opportunity to pursue a TUT qualification in a flexible and accessible manner, from wherever they are. This forms part of TUT’s comprehensive online-education strategy to introduce high-quality and fully online programmes.

Other programmes provided online include:

  1. Higher Certificate in Contact Centre Management (Already active)
  2. Higher Certificate in Administrative Information Management (Already active)
  3. Postgraduate Diploma Hospitality Management (Already active)
  4. Postgraduate Diploma Human Resources Management (Already active)

Providing access to students beyond the borders of SA
Speaking on the launch of online programmes, Prof Ben van Wyk, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Technology, said the new online programme is a significant step towards broadening the University’s reach and providing access to students beyond the borders of South Africa.

“We live in a country where there is a high demand for higher education, however as the biggest contact university in the country, we are limited in how many students we can host in a contact mode – therefore the online space provides an opportunity to broaden that. It allows us to expand beyond South Africa as we enroll a number of international students, particularly on the continent.

Promoting online education
Dr Edgar Nesamvuni, Executive Dean at the Faculty of Management Sciences, said the University and the Faculty are well positioned for the future. “The concept of traditional education has changed radically within the last couple of years. Being physically present in a classroom isn’t the only learning option anymore, not with the rise of the internet and new technologies, at least.”

He added that the University is entering a new era – the revolution of online education. “We have systems, including staff members, who are highly skilled in these new methods of teaching, in place to ensure efficiency and quality training”, said Dr Nesamvuni.
