Nkululeko Innocent Masuku's journey to stardom speaks of hard work and dedication. The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Performing Arts alumnus and Opera singer captured the hearts of millions with his breath-taking audition on Britain's Got Talent (BGT) 2024 three months ago.

Despite facing doubters who said he wouldn't make it far with Opera music, Masuku persevered and believed in himself. His hard work paid off when he reached the finals of BGT, taking fourth place.

Masuku's love affair with music began at a young age, but it was at TUT's Faculty of Arts and Design where he honed his skills and discovered his true potential.

"I could sing when I came to University, but I didn't know how to read music," he recalls. "TUT taught me how to play the piano, read music and move my body. They moulded me into becoming a professional musician."

Masuku labelled his BGT audition experience as the best moment of his life since it clearly reminded him of his purpose.

"I was told that I might not be shown on television, so making it onto television without a story was everything. One competes with people who have unique stories, therefore showcasing my talent on television was everything. Just making it onto television and saying 'Hi, my name is Innocent Masuku and I am from South Africa' would have been enough too."

Masuku credits TUT for his success: "TUT enhanced my skills, boosted my confidence and moulded me into a professional. Although I was an amateur when I arrived at the University, they helped me to grow." He also acknowledges the support of his family and friends, who encouraged him to pursue his dreams.

Masuku's experience on BGT was a whirlwind one. His audition video received the most views among all contestants and he became an overnight sensation.

"It was surreal, I never expected to receive such an overwhelming response."

With a slew of accolades under his belt, including the SAMRO competition Merit Award and the Oppenheimer International Scholarship, Masuku is an inspiration to many. His story evidence of the power of believing in oneself and never giving up on one's dreams.

As he looks to the future, Masuku remains committed to his craft, saying: "I want to continue inspiring others through my music and showing the world what I'm capable of." He currently works on new music and plans to embark on a tour soon.

Masuku's journey is a reminder that success is within reach if we dare to dream big. His story will inspire and motivate many to pursue their passions, no matter how impossible they may seem.
