TUT Giyani Campus
In 2021 at the invitation of the Department of Higher Education (DHET), former TUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Lourens van Staden, led a delegation of TUT Management on a visit to the premises of the former Giyani College of Education. DHET had been considering converting that college into a TUT Campus for a few years. Once the decision to establish the TUT Giyani Campus was finalised, it was publicly launched in Giyani, on 16 July 2022, by Minister of Higher Education, Dr Blade Nzimande.
In August 2024, TUT and the Greater Giyani Municipality signed a MoU, for the first time granting TUT the permission to occupy the premises.
In collaboration with the DHET and the Provincial government, the work of turning the premises into a site for the delivery of academic programmes will soon commence.
TUT-Bapedi Kingdom MoU
On the 20th of May 2021, TUT and the Bapedi Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The MoU has served as a framework of collaboration and good working relations between the two parties ever since. As well as the establishment of a joint steering committee, the four objectives of the MoU were:
- Building a knowledge sharing platform that will assist with information, research, education, sharing of ideas amongst the relevant stakeholders.
- Creating forums to discuss research agenda and exchange research inputs.
- Co-facilitating stakeholder engagements
- Strengthening the skills of the personnel of both parties.
In pursuit of these objectives, TUT has had various engagements with, amongst others, the Sekhukhune TVET College and representatives of the Limpopo Premier’s Office, to discuss possible collaborative research projects on areas such as hydrogen energy and mining.
The last physical meeting between TUT and the Bapedi Kingdom was held on 23 July 2024. Engagements are ongoing.
