Entrepreneurship has become an essential part of the South-African economy and plays a crucial role in boosting economic activity in the country. With the rising number of startups and small businesses, the entrepreneurial spirit has been driving economic growth and job creation in the country. Startups and small businesses contribute significantly to the GDP and create job opportunities. These enterprises introduce innovative products, services, and business models that stimulate competition and drive economic growth.

Hence, in a drive to boost economic growth and activity in the Limpopo Province, the Tshwane University of Technology recently launched an Entrepreneurship Hub at its Polokwane Campus.

In his opening remarks Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, said: “2024 marks a monumental year for TUT as it celebrates 20 years of excellence and 30 years of South African democracy. Today, we proudly launched the Polokwane Campus Entrepreneurship Hub, a significant milestone in our ongoing journey to make knowledge work for the benefit of our people and country.”

The VC also emphasised that entrepreneurship is not just a choice but a necessity. “In a country facing high unemployment and infrastructure challenges, entrepreneurship holds the key to addressing the many pressing issues we face.”

He added that the entrepreneurship hub is an unstoppable idea which is a practical demonstration of TUT’s commitment to moving "from good to great."
