In recognising the stars of the Faculty in 2023, the Faculty of Humanities recently hosted the annual Academic Excellence Awards to celebrate the teaching, research and support staff who continue to contribute to the success of the Faculty.

Dr Dee Khosa - Emerging Researcher of the Year.

The categories of winners included teaching and learning awards, research awards, improvement of qualification, as well as acknowledgement of Faculty support staff during the year of 2023.

  • The Lecturer of the year – merit award went to Given Selowa from the Department of Educational Foundation, with Ms Sholain Govender-Bateman, from the Department of Journalism and Integrated Communication taking the top honours of Lecturer of the Year. 
  • In the research category, three emerging researchers of the year were nominated, Prof Dee Khosa from the Department of Law, Safety and Security Management, Dr Samuel Khoza from the Department of Technology and Vocational Education and Dr Daniel Mlambo from the Department of Public Management. The research category also included the Master’s student of the year, Ms Nandipha Nyangiwe and Dr Fabian Meyers, Doctoral student of the year. 
  • Prof Jacob Mofokeng from the Department of Law, Safety and Security Management was recognised for capacity building and for his NRF C2 rating. 
  • Prof Ricky Mukonza from the Department of Public Management and Academic Manager at the Polokwane Campus received the Newsmaker award and the CITSI of the year award.  
  • The other recipients in the research category were Dr Hundzukani Khosa from the Department of Law, Safety and Security for the postdoctoral research fellow of the year, while Prof Mzwamadoda Cekiso, from the Department of Applied Languages received the Lifetime award. 

The Faculty also acknowledged the Departmental administrators as well as staff who improved their qualifications, WIL and timetable coordinators and those who contributed to the research output of the year 2023.
