In a ground-breaking milestone for Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), the pioneering TUT-CATHSSETA Graduate Programme recently concluded its closing function, marking the end of an innovative cross-disciplinary and inter-faculty initiative that has left an indelible mark on the landscape of experiential learning

According to Dr Pamela Serra, Section Head: Sport, Recreation and Supply Chain Management, the TUT-CATHSSETA Graduate Programme, the first of its kind at TUT, was lauded for its meticulous planning, high-quality execution, and unparalleled success in providing a holistic learning experience for the interns. The program brought together students from different faculties, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and enhancing the students' overall skill set. During the closing ceremony, graduates had the opportunity to showcase their journeys, recounting the challenges they faced and highlighting the pivotal moments that shaped their growth. “The testimonials provided a glimpse into the transformative impact of the program, emphasizing the practical skills gained, professional networks established, and personal development achieved over the 12-month period,” Dr Serra, said.

Guests of honour, including industry stakeholders and mentors, commended TUT for its commitment to fostering practical skills development and bridging the gap between academia and industry. The success of the program was attributed to the strong partnerships forged between TUT and various industries, ensuring that interns received real-world exposure and hands-on experience in their respective fields.

In her congratulatory address, Ms Ntshangase, commended TUT for its dedication to delivering a comprehensive and impactful program. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in addressing the skills gap in the industry and preparing graduates for the challenges of the workforce.

“The closing function served not only as a celebration of the interns' achievements but also as a platform for reflection and collaboration. As TUT continues to set new standards in experiential learning, the success of the TUT-CATHSSETA Graduate Programme serves as a testament to the university's commitment to producing industry-ready graduates,” Dr Serra added.

“The graduates, now equipped with both academic knowledge and practical experience, are poised to make meaningful contributions to their respective fields. The closing function marked the beginning of a new chapter for these interns, who are now better prepared to navigate the dynamic landscape of their chosen industries,” Dr Serra concluded.
