The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) confirms that the establishment of its Giyani Campus on the premises of the erstwhile Giyani College of Education, as approved by the Department of Higher Education Training (DHET), is on course for completion by the end of 2025. The TUT Senate approved the programme qualification mix for the Giyani Campus in 2024 already.

Due to many years of vandalism and lack of maintenance, the physical, water, electrical and digital infrastructure has been extensively damaged, to the point of decimation, in several key buildings of the campus.

For this reason, the University announced in 2024 already that student intake will only commence in the second half of 2025 with a view to the 2026 academic year.

The refurbishment of the facility has started. Infrastructure that enables effective teaching and learning is a prerequisite for the accreditation of the facility as a delivery site for higher education qualifications by the Council on Higher Education (CHE).

It is envisaged that the processes of refurbishment, CHE site accreditation and the secondment of key staff members will be completed by December 2025. Regular updates will be provided on this platform and other university communication platforms.
