The Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Science has appointed Dr Mathoto Thaoge Zwane as the new Assistant Dean: Teaching and Learning (Natural and Agricultural Sciences) from 1 February 2025. She is a seasoned academic and researchers who brings with her a wealth of experience in research, academic leadership and innovation.
Dr Zwane has been an integral part of TUT’s academic community since 2015, serving as Head of Department and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology. Her expertise spans microbiology, molecular biology and food science, with a strong research focus on enhancing food safety, nutrition and security through biotechnological advancements.
Beyond her scientific contributions, she has played an important role in research management and policy development at the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), strengthening South Africa’s National System of Innovation. Her leadership credentials are further supported by an MBL from UNISA and an MBA in Education Management from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Finland.
