Dr Advocate Linda Mbana has been appointed as Research Associate with the Department of Safety and Security Management at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
Dr Mbana’s appointment is within the University’s Faculty of Humanities, where there is a thriving research culture and a commitment to the aims of social justice enhancement and the promotion of equality.
As an Associate, Dr Mbana’s work will include collaborating on research projects, publications, postgraduate supervision and research grant applications.
"I am delighted to be appointed to this role and looking forward to collaborating with colleagues in the Department Safety and Security Management, as well as community development at the Faculty," she said.
Dr Mbana brings a wealth of experience and has a CV to be envied. "I did not study law to become an executive; rather, to be the voice of the voiceless and a defender of the powerless," she says.
She was recently appointed as Group Executive at Armscor, responsible for business assurance, where she also leads the Legal Services Division.
In 2022, Dr Mbana was appointed as the UNISA Ombudsman, a position she still occupies to date. She explains that growing up in the Eastern Cape, she was confronted daily with the true nature of social injustice. The harsh reality of her background is what shaped her outlook on life.
"I resolved at a very tender age to pursue the legal profession to fight social injustices and stand up for the underdog," she concluded.
