Celebrated Jazz saxophonist and Professor of Music in the Department of Performing Arts, Faculty of Arts and Design, Karendra Devroop, has been invited to perform two international concerts in the USA and Germany.

On 15 February, Prof Devroop will perform with the Riverside Symphonia, a professional orchestra in New Jersey. His performance will include works from his Grammy-submitted album Overjoyed, which features hits from the 1980s arranged for saxophone, string orchestra and jazz rhythm section.

Released in April 2024, the album spent eight months on the international jazz charts, with the title track peaking at number 23 on the Smooth Jazz Global Charts.

Following his concert in New Jersey, Prof Devroop will perform with the Sara Dekker Trio at the Burg Baesweiler Jazz Club in Baesweiler, Germany.

Sara Dekker is the second-place winner of the Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition who opened the Montreux Jazz Festival with Chick Corea in 2018.

Burg Baesweiler Jazz Club is one of the most prestigious jazz venues in Germany having hosted some of the world’s leading jazz artists. Prof Devroop will perform tracks off his 2023 quartet album entitled Dance of the Indentured in addition to tracks from Sara Dekker’s recent album entitled Expand.
