Andry Phasha, a leading third year Information Technology (IT) student has been selected as a finalist for the Regional Exam – Network Track in the prestigious Huawei ICT Competition. The competition that attracts top talent from across the globe, is designed to test and enhance students’ skills in fields such as networking, cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The 2025 competition will be held at Huawei’s headquarters in Woodmead, Johannesburg, where the finalist will compete against the best students from various institutions throughout Africa.
Having completed the preliminary round in December, Andry’s journey has been nothing short of impressive. In addition to qualifying for the National Competition, he received the Grand Prize, a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field. His hard work and determination have earned him a well-deserved spot in the regional finals, marking an important milestone in his academic and professional journey.
In preparation for the challenging competition, Andry has been participating in an intensive boot camp over the past few weeks. Huawei has gone the extra mile by providing accommodation for all participants, ensuring they can focus fully on their training and examinations without any logistical challenges, which underscores Huawei’s commitment to fostering the growth of future tech leaders.
“The competition represents a personal achievement as well as an opportunity to exhibit the calibre of talent and technical expertise being nurtured within the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FoICT). The recognition reflects the world-class education and mentorship the FoICT provides, and it highlights the institution's continued commitment to shaping the next generation of ICT professionals,” he shared.
Andry has also achieved another milestone when obtaining the HCIA Datacom certificate from Huawei, which reinforces his expertise in the field of networking and communications.
