In an exciting move for the education and technology sectors, NELEKAT Pty Ltd, has teamed up with the Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FoICT) to launch a transformative partnership aimed at shaping the next generation of ICT professionals. This collaboration offers students valuable opportunities, enhanced experiential learning and advancing career prospects as well as cultivating innovation.

At the core of this partnership is a shared vision: to equip ICT students with real-world, hands-on experience in a simulated work environment. By offering practical learning experiences that mirror the challenges of the fast-paced ICT industry, the collaboration bridges the gap between academic knowledge and industry-required skills. Through controlled settings that replicate real-world scenarios, students will gain practical exposure, which will enhance their employability.

The partnership also places a strong emphasis on experiential learning through dynamic events such as hackathons. These high-energy events encourage students to innovate, collaborate and solve problems in teams. Hackathons not only stimulate creativity but also give students the opportunity to tackle technology challenges that reflect current industry needs.

A key aspect of this partnership is its focus on improving the employability of undergraduate FoICT students. NELEKAT and FoICT are committed to ensuring that students graduate with academic qualifications as well as the credentials that demonstrate their expertise to potential employers.

Mashitishi Phurutsi, CEO of the Informatics Community Engagement Programme (ICEP), reflected on the positive impact of NELEKAT’s support since 2022 on the keeping the ICEP programme afloat financially.

“NELEKAT appeared as a ray of hope when we were about to give up on applying for stipends for our interns. Their support was a turning point for ICEP and helped our students stay motivated, focused on their studies as well as participate in academic and practical learning opportunities, enabling them to work towards their professional goals with a smile on their faces,” Phurutsi said.

The partnership between NELEKAT and FoICT exemplifies how collaboration between educational institutions and industry leaders can drive innovation and produce mutually beneficial outcomes. NELEKAT’s financial backing, support for organising hackathons and involvement in securing internships are essential to the programme’s success, offering students valuable career opportunities.

Together, NELEKAT and the FoICT are setting the stage for future technological advancements and preparing students to meet the growing demands of the global job market. This partnership represents more than just a collaboration; it is a strategic investment in the future of ICT education and the career success of countless students. Through this union, these organisations are laying the groundwork for a brighter, more innovative future for the ICT sector and beyond.
