The first phase in the rolling out of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Giyani Campus is off to an excellent start – a start that is worthy of a significant national project of this stature.

Local stakeholders have been engaged and brought up to speed so that there is a shared understanding of the national mandate and the international intent of the TUT Giyani campus.

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), under the leadership of Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, local royalty, local businesses, civic formations, non-governmental organisations, the local municipality, the local police and the provincial government under the leadership of Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, have all added their weight behind the TUT Giyani Campus initiative. As owners and leaders of the project TUT and DHET will drive the process of establishing the campus.

All stakeholders recognise that the Giyani Campus of the Tshwane University of Technology is bringing world class higher education to the region. To that end, the TUT Giyani Campus is a game-changer in the provision of higher education in the Mopani region and its neighbouring regions.

The Campus Rector of the TUT Giyani Campus is Mr Isaac Thlabadira, a veteran engineer who has been working in the TUT Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment for many years. A team of social facilitators, led by Mr Dick Bvuma will work closely with him.

The refurbishment of the TUT Giyani Campus will begin on 19 May 2025 and expected to be completed by 31 October 2025. This timeline will ensure that the campus will be ready for applications by September 2025 and ready to admit students for the 2026 academic year.

Students who will be enrolling for the 2026 academic year at the Giyani Campus will have access to the highest quality of higher education available nationally and internationally. The youth of Mopani, Limpopo and South Africa deserve no less.
