The Tshwane University of Technology’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (TUT CED), in collaboration with the South African government and the G20, will co-host the G20 Financial Inclusion and Women Empowerment Conference on 6 and 7 May 2025 at Sun City, Northwest Province. Joined by the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD), the event will unite leaders from G20 nations, the African Union and global partners to address gender disparities in financial access and economic opportunities.

Focus and Goals

Themed Advancing Financial Inclusion, Entrepreneurship and Gender Equity, the conference will tackle:

  • Barriers to women’s access to financial services, credit and entrepreneurial resources.
  • Gender-responsive policies for equitable economic systems.
  • Gender-responsive policies for equitable economic systems.
  • Innovation in climate-smart and green economy sectors.
  • Financial literacy and digital inclusion training.
  • Global partnerships for sustained impact.

Key Features of the conference include

  • Plenary sessions with policymakers, financial experts and women entrepreneurs.
  • Workshops on financial literacy, capacity building and sustainability.
  • Development of a framework to prioritize women’s economic needs. 
  • High-level networking among governments, private sectors and civil society.
  • Legacy projects like the Women’s Empowerment Knowledge Hub and Green Economy Accelerator. 

Preparations for and anticipated impact of the conference 

On 17 and18 February 2025, the G20 Empowerment of Women Working Group (EWWG) met to shape the conference agenda and policy priorities. The event is expected to produce:

  • A communiqué for the G20 Leaders’ Declarations to be issued in November 2025.
  • Policy commitments to boost women’s financial inclusion.
  • Global targets to be set to bridge the gender digital divide and reduce economic inequalities.
  • Innovative financial tools for diverse communities to be developed. 
  • Sustainable initiatives to drive long-term change to be introduced.
