In today’s fast-changing and competitive job market, a strong Curriculum Vitae (CV) is more than just a formality, it is a vital tool that opens doors to career opportunities. Recognising this, the Department of Internal Auditing at the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Faculty of Economics and Finance hosted a CV Day on 27 August 2025 at the Ga-Rankuwa Campus, equipping students with practical guidance to sharpen their professional profiles.
The collaborative event between TUT’s Internal Auditing student chapter and key industry bodies - the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA), the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association (IASA) - aimed at helping students craft professional CVs, gain valuable feedback and connect directly with potential employers and professional networks.
Students engaged in one-on-one sessions with Ga-Rankuwa based representatives from TUT’s Directorate Human Resources and Transformation, IIASA, and the MASA Risk Advisory Services. They received practical advice on structuring CVs, highlighting strengths and tailoring applications for different opportunities. In addition, learners were introduced to support initiatives such as the IIASA’s Siyakhula Programme, which offers mentorship and career support for aspiring internal auditors.
The event drew participation beyond the Internal Auditing discipline, with students from other departments also eager to sharpen their employability skills. Final-year student, Mokgadi Ramolefo, commended the initiative as “highly informative and valuable,” noting how the engagement with industry professionals gave her new insights into career growth. As a Siyakhula participant, she encouraged peers to take advantage of such opportunities to build networks and prepare for the world of work.
The session also emphasised the growing importance of building a strong professional presence online. Students were guided on strengthening their profiles on platforms like LinkedIn, ensuring they stand out to recruiters in an increasingly digital hiring environment.
The enthusiastic turnout and positive feedback highlighted the value of career development initiatives at TUT. By combining expert advice, practical feedback and industry exposure, the CV Day gave students a competitive edge in positioning themselves for success in the job market.
