The Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Emalahleni Campus came alive during the Ntombazana 2025 Women’s Empowerment Seminar, where renowned personalities DJ Zinhle and actress Rami Chuene joined academics, leaders and students in a dynamic gathering to uplift and inspire young women.

Hosted by TUT’s Directorate of Student Governance and Leadership Development, the seminar focused on empowering female students to embrace their potential, navigate challenges and pursue excellence.

Founder of Ntombazana, Dr Gugu Xaba, opened the event with a keynote address on the organisation’s mission and values, stressing the importance of building strong “story families” as a foundation for women’s empowerment. His message set the tone for the day’s thought-provoking sessions.

TUT Council member Mapula Ncanywa, who also chairs the Institute of Future Work, encouraged students to prioritise their well-being, lean on supportive networks and nurture their talents. “When you fall, remember there is one step between you and death,” she said, urging students to remain resilient in the face of challenges.

Two interactive panel discussions - “The Role of Family in the 21st Century” and “No More Victims: Real Stories, Real Victims” - sparked deep conversations among students, who engaged panellists with questions and reflections. Rachel Ntsako and Sharmaine Maetsa, who shared their success stories, further motivated attendees.

Breakaway workshops added a practical dimension, covering themes such as “We Listen, We Don’t Judge,” “Vision as a Young Person,” “Navigating Through Relationships,” and “Pick Up Life Beyond Challenges.” Each session provided tools for personal growth and empowerment.

TUT spokesperson, Phaphama Tshisikhawe, shared motivational insights, reinforcing the University’s commitment to supporting female students.

The highlight of the event was the closing addresses by DJ Zinhle and Rami Chuene, who shared personal life lessons and words of encouragement, leaving students energised to pursue their dreams.

The success of Ntombazana 2025 underscored TUT’s dedication to creating empowering spaces for women, ensuring that students are not just educated, but also inspired to lead with confidence.
