The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and Trento University, Italy, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration, to pursue joint research programs, academic exchange programs for students and staff, co-supervision of postgraduate students and joint funding application

Thus, the collaboration will provide a strong platform for exchange of scientific and educational literature as well as human resource development through study-abroad programmes for academic staff and students of both institutions. The new partnership forms part of TUT’s quest to become a global destination for academic and professional higher education.

To date, a Master of Engineering (Civil Engineering) student from Trento University was hosted at TUT from January to June 2023 and two PhD students from TUT’s Department of Crop Sciences and Civil Engineering were awarded the exchange programme. One (1) student travelled to Trento in September 2023 and the other is scheduled to travel in January 2024.

Speaking on the joint agreement, the DVC for Research, Innovation and Engagement, Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka said TUT’s Internationalisation Office coordinates activities and initiatives geared towards growing the university’s collaboration with its international partners, enhancing institutional reputation, supporting students and staff exchanges and promoting of access to international funding and study opportunities.
