The Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Advancement and Partnerships Office (APO) has launched a dynamic and impactful initiative, the #Twentyfrom20 fundraising campaign, aimed at raising R1.2 million in support of three vital University projects: the Ndumo Community project in KZN; the ICT Intervarsity Hackathon Series; and the Grade R Centre of Excellence: Early Childhood Development, aimed at providing access to quality early childhood education for learners from disadvantaged communities.

Enthusiastic young scientists seized the opportunity to exhibit their remarkable scientific and innovative research projects at this year’s regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, Northern Gauteng region, hosted by the Department of Chemistry in The Faculty of Science on Saturday 25 August 2024.

Dr Amanda-Lee Ezra Manicum from the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, received a Research Excellence Award for Early Career/Emerging Researchers at the 2024 National Research Foundation (NRF) Awards. The event took place at the Sun City Resort in Northwest Province on 22 August 2024.

The Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Technology Station in Electronics and Prof Takahashi Motoki, prominent academic representative from Kyoto University in Japan, met at the CSIR on 26 August 2024 to strengthen a long-standing partnership between TUT and Japanese universities and other organisations. Prof Motoki represented the interests of several Japanese universities. This partnership has been instrumental in facilitating academic exchanges and collaborative projects, with the meeting aiming to further enhance these ties.

The Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Marketing, Supply Chain and Sport Management, in collaboration with Prof Mercy Makhitha from UNISA, hosted the African Marketing Academic Collaboration (AMAC) seminar on 21 and 22 August, bringing together local and international marketing practitioners and academics to discuss the importance of continuous programme reviews in response to the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Prof Pfunzo Sidogi, Head of the Department of Fine and Studio Arts in the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Tshwane University of Technology, won the prestigious Arnold Rubin Outstanding Publication Award in Chicago for his book Mihloti Ya Ntsako: Journeys with the Bongi Dhlomo Collection. In an interview, he talks about the journey of writing the book and the significance of these awards, which have been described as the Olympics of African art history.

Prof Yolanda Havenga, a registered professional nurse with the South African Nursing Council and associate professor at the Tshwane University of Technology’s School of Nursing Science, has been appointed new Assistant Dean for Teaching and Learning at the Faculty of Science.
