New students were officially welcomed to TUT’s Soshanguve campuses during a week-long orientation programme designed to prepare them for academic success in 2026.
Dr Carla Coetzee, Acting Unit Manager for First-Year and Foundation Unit.
This year, the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology and the Faculty of Humanities hosted a joint first-year orientation programme at the Tshwane University of Technology Soshanguve campuses.
The week-long programme created an opportunity for first-year students from both faculties to familiarise themselves with University life, academic expectations and available support services. All academic departments and key directorates participated to ensure students received comprehensive guidance as they begin their higher education journey.
Students were introduced to their respective departments and academic staff while they were also guided on curriculum requirements, assessment processes, academic rules and student responsibilities.
Support directorates, including Student Governance and Leadership Development, Directorate of Extracurricular Development Student Development Support, as well as the Disability Unit, also engaged with students and shared information on campus resources designed to support academic success and student wellbeing.
The programme aimed to ease the transition from secondary education to University by creating a welcoming and informative environment. First-years were encouraged to engage actively, ask questions and take advantage of academic and co-curricular opportunities at TUT.
By co-hosting the orientation programme the Faculties of ICT and Humanities reinforced the University’s commitment to holistic student development and academic excellence and set a positive tone for the 2026 academic year.
