A long-standing collaboration between the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Faculty of Information and Communication Technology's (FoICT) Department of Computer Science, has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of education through various initiatives. These include workshops as well as planning and training sessions designed to benefit experts and participants from Higher Education Institutions (HEI). Due to this collaboration, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) invited FoICT to participate in the recent training of foundation phase for provincial and district officials on coding and robotics.

Zaza Cala, a student in the Performing Arts programme at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), won a Naledi Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Play (Imxinwa) on 20 May. This prestigious recognition not only highlights her commitment and skill, but also serves as motivation for budding artists, particularly her peers in the Faculty of Arts and Design. Two Alumni from the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department Horticulture, Leon Kluge and Anna Rose Ncube, formed part of team South Africa that stole the show at the 2024 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show in London, winning a Gold medal with perfect Scores from the RHS judges. Kluge who completed a B-Tech in Landscape Technology in 2009, was the mastermind and main designer behind this truly South African and prestigious Protea inspired design. This is also Kluge’s third Gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show after winning the top prize for South Africa in 2018 and 2019.

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and Intel have taken a significant step forward in preparing students for the future of work. Twenty-year-old TUT and the 56-year-old Intel have joined forces in establishing the TUT-Intel AI Career Tech Centre. This center will ensure that all TUT students across all TUT campuses learn the most important language of the 21st Century - the language of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The TUT-Intel AI Career Tech Centre is a first of its kind in the world.
